Design of an Organized Relocation Area for Special Social Groups in the Municipality of Ampelokipoi-Menemeni

The study concerns the formation of a model organized residential complex in Agios Nektarios of the Municipality of Ampelokipi - Menemeni for the relocation of 20 families of special social groups. The aim of the study was the development of a modern and functional residential complex, which will ensure social integration and improve the living conditions of its residents. The approach was based on architectural solutions for the location of the building units and the design of the surrounding space, which are in harmony with the principles of sustainability.

Approach

The study focused on creating a contemporary settlement where the placement of residential units was guided by functionality and bioclimatic efficiency. The surrounding space was designed to enhance social interaction, incorporating green spaces, pathways, resting areas, and recreational spots. A central square was created at the heart of the settlement, equipped with pergolas, tree plantings, and modern urban infrastructure, aiming to become a focal point for the community. Additionally, the study included the development of a Multipurpose Center that will house social services and support structures, strengthening social cohesion.

The project's design was based on key principles of sustainable development. The bioclimatic design ensured optimal energy efficiency for the residences, with proper orientation for natural cooling in summer and sufficient sunlight in winter. Special attention was given to accessibility, ensuring unobstructed movement for pedestrians and people with disabilities throughout the settlement. Environmental sustainability was enhanced with cool materials, green spaces, and permeable surfaces, contributing to microclimate improvement and thermal comfort. Moreover, the communal areas were designed with a focus on social inclusion, facilitating interaction and integration of new residents into the broader urban fabric.
