Upgrade Of Kipi Road Border Checkpoint, Evros
Consortis adopts a high-quality approach to the design for the upgrade of the Kipi Road Border Checkpoint. The objective is to modernize and improve the services provided at the land border station by ensuring that the new facilities adhere to national infrastructure standards, incorporate cutting-edge technology, and effectively accommodate the growing requirements for third-country national entries. Comprehensive Topographical, Architectural, Structural, Electromechanical and Transport studies were prepared as a part of the project.
Approach
The Kipi Road Border Checkpoint faces increasing needs because of increased third-country nationals entering and goods transit. Current infrastructure is inadequate for contemporary requirements and does not align with national standards, indicating the necessity for significant upgrade to both service delivery and inspection procedures.
The preparation of the necessary studies and proposed interventions encompasses several key areas:
- Restoration and upgrade of existing building facilities will be undertaken utilizing state-of-the-art materials and architectural solutions. Expansion will occur via additional new building units.
- The Services central building at the Border Checkpoint is set to undergo energy efficiency upgrades, new network systems, and get an updated exterior. A ventilated façade system will be added to upgrade and reorganize the façade and to provide better shading for the structure. Other buildings will also be renovated with modern, lightweight external envelopes, all contributing to a unified perceptible architectural identity that stands out.
- Comprehensive reorganization and relocation of buildings, facilities, and activities will be achieved by expanding the current functional area and infrastructure.
- Demolition of obsolete structures, where necessary.
- Landscaping of the surrounding environment, including parking facilities.
- Road network upgrades and targeted strategies will enhance overall traffic flow.
Benefits
The advantages resulting from the completion of the studies and implementation of the proposed design solution are as follows:
- The integration of advanced technological equipment and enhancements to the facilities’ aesthetics provide improved working conditions for staff, fostering both a pleasant and efficient work environment.
- The border checkpoint’s entire image is enhanced. Both the newly designed buildings together with upgrades of existing structures follow a unified approach. The use of contemporary materials and architectural solutions provides a consistent and distinguished identity for the entire Border Checkpoint.
- The adoption of innovative approaches contributes to a reduced environmental footprint and significant resource savings.
- Functionality and safety are optimized throughout the station.
- The improvements and new organization of the facilities upgrades streamline traffic, boost accessibility, and ensure efficient service for both citizens and commercial activities.
